Erika is an internal and addiction medicine specialist working as part-time private physician and project leader of the hepatitis C microelimination strategy in her region.
From 2011 to 2018 she developed integrated care services “under-one-roof” for people with co-occurring mental disorders, drug use and HIV/ HCV co-infection at the Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois, Switzerland.
Dr Castro is a committee member of the Swiss Association for the Medical Management in Substance Users (SAMMSU) and promotor of the SAMMSU cohort.
She completed a PhD degree in tropical medicine at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil after her main education in Venezuela. Her current research interest concerns screening and treatment strategies for people with chronic hepatitis C as well as global health of people who use drugs. Throughout her journey in Venezuela and Switzerland, she has worked with other patient communities as migrants, MSM, sex workers and more recently, chemsex users.
Erika is also committed to different medical education efforts within Switzerland and abroad as a member of the UNODC trainer team.
