This session highlighted the high burden of HIV and hepatitis C among pregnant women who use drugs and the opportunity to integrate HIV/HCV testing and care within antenatal settings, where routine contact with health services can reduce missed diagnoses. The presentation demonstrated that perinatal screening and linkage to care remain inconsistent, but that antenatal services can serve as effective entry points for testing, counselling, and engagement in ongoing care. Emerging evidence and clinical experience suggest that HCV treatment during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, can be safe and effective, supporting more integrated, women‑centred perinatal care models to improve outcomes for both mothers and infants.
