This session underscored public health as a cornerstone of societal stability, emphasising that investments in harm reduction, HIV, and viral hepatitis services are essential not only for local health systems but also for global disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness, and health security. The presentation highlighted the ripple effects of undermining science and public health infrastructure, noting how funding cuts, politicisation of research, and erosion of trust weaken evidence‑based decision‑making and have cascading impacts on vulnerable populations worldwide. In response, the session issued a clear call to action to defend scientific integrity, sustain community‑centred public health systems, and mobilise coordinated advocacy, data, and cross‑sector partnerships to ensure resilience, preparedness, and equitable health outcomes in the face of ongoing political and financial uncertainty.
