With the INHSU 2025 abstract submission deadline fast approaching on 2 March, we recently hosted a webinar designed to help researchers, practitioners, and community members craft compelling abstracts. Led by experts Professor Jason Grebely, Scientia Professor Carla Treloar, and Dr. Andrew Scheibe, the session provided practical insights into writing successful abstracts, common pitfalls to avoid, and key submission requirements.

What is the deadline to submit an abstract for INHSU 2025?
The deadline is 11:59 PM (SAST) on Sunday, 2 March 2025.
Who can submit an abstract?
Anyone working in the field of drug user health, harm reduction, infectious diseases, or related disciplines is encouraged to submit.
Is the conference focused only on research from Africa?
No, INHSU 2025 welcomes abstracts from around the world.
Do abstracts need references?
No, references should not be included in abstracts. However, they are required in posters and presentations.
Can we submit multiple abstracts?
Yes! There is no limit to the number of abstracts that can be submitted from a single country, organisation or person.
What if my study’s results are not new but provide significant baseline research?
Abstracts are assessed based on their relevance to the conference themes. If your work contributes valuable baseline research, it will still be considered.
Would a service development initiative be suitable for submission?
Yes, abstracts related to developing and evaluating service delivery models, such as elimination strategies in prisons, are encouraged.
My team is exploring a model of care using qualitative methods. Should we submit under Models of Care or Social Science?
- If your study evaluates implementation and impact, submit under Models of Care
- If it focuses on barriers and facilitators without measuring effectiveness, Social Science is a better fit
- However, it is not unusual for abstracts to be suited to multiple themes. Choose the one you feel fits best
- Abstracts submitted to the social science theme will be more favourably scored if they utilise a theoretical framework to guide the interpretation of qualitative findings
When is the scholarship application deadline?
The scholarship deadline is also 2 March 2025. Scholarships will only be awarded to those with a successful abstract.
When will scholarship results be announced?
Final scholarship decisions will be communicated after the abstract review process.
Can I apply for a scholarship if I’m not affiliated with an organisation?
Yes, independent researchers and professionals are welcome to apply.

The deadline for abstract submissions is 11:59 PM (SAST) on Sunday, 2 March 2025. INHSU 2025 welcomes abstracts that enhance the health and quality of life of people who use drugs. This year, submissions are open for oral and poster presentations, as well as Discussion Spaces & Workshops, which provide an opportunity for interactive sessions.
